Girl group BLACKPINK has risen to the top of YouTube subscribers among singers around the world and surpassed Justin Bieber (65.1 million subscriber) who had ranked number one on the artist channel for two years and one month earlier. Its been about a year since the artist climbed to the second place in YouTube subscribers last year.
According to YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel reached 65.2 million subscribers and became the number one artist channel worldwide.
They rose to the top in about a year after they climbed to the second place in artist for having most YouTube subscribers on September 29th last year (2020).
This is the first record in about 5 years since the opening of the BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel. That’s a huge growth.
YG said, “The number of YouTube subscribers is a token of the steady interest and love of loyal fans, not just curiosity about content or a one-time viewing.”
BLACKPINK said through YG on the same day, “I can’t believe it. It’s a miraculous moment that Blink (fandom) made.
We want to give glory to the fans around the world who always love and support us.” She added, “I hope Blink can enjoy this joy as it is the result of what we and the fans achieved together. I will continue to become an artist who provides positive energy through good music and videos.”
BLACKPINK opened a YouTube channel on June 28, 2016 and has steadily expanded their fandom globally. Content such as music videos that BLACKPINK presents on YouTube are popular for their colourful, visuals and sensual productions.
It has been praised for creating explosive energy by combining music, fashion, and performance as a whole.
Individual contents of BLACKPINK members are also being added to make records along with the dance practice video.
The music video for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, the title song of their first mini album ‘SQUARE UP’ released in 2018, surpassed 1.6 billion views for the first time in a K-pop group, while ‘Kill This Love’ has 1.3 billion views, ‘BOOMBAYAH’ has 1.2 billion views, and ‘As if it were your last’ has 1 billion views.
The agency said, “Currently, the overall number of views of all their YouTube videos is close to a symbolic figure of 20 billion views.”
