‘Military Service Act’ BTS, apply for postponement of enlistment for all members

BTS Military Service Act to allow alternative service for pop culture artists who contributed to the national interest was discussed in the National Assembly, but it was put on hold without reaching a conclusion.

While the amendment of the Military Service Act to allow alternative service system for pop culture artists has been put on hold, it has been confirmed that BTS has applied for a postponement of enlistment.

The National Assembly’s National Defense Committee held a subcommittee on the bill on the 25th to discuss the amendment to the Military Service Act, but without reaching a conclusion, it decided to hold a public debate, including a public hearing.

BTS received the Order of Cultural Merit in 2018, becoming the only pop culture artist to receive the benefits of postponement of enlistment.

BTS member Jin, the oldest member of the group, was born in 1992. Therefore, Jin can postpone his enlistment until December 31, 2022.

Representatively proposed amendments to the Military Service Act, which were included in the transfer target, and these bills were presented to the National Assembly Defense Committee Bill Review Subcommittee held on the 25th.

These lawmakers proposed the amendment to the Military Service Act, which was directly triggered by the fact that the group BTS ranked first on the US music chart ‘Billboard‘. In other words, if the bill passes the National Assembly, it is highly likely that BTS as well as the Korean economic will receive ‘benefits’.

However, the ‘BTS Military Service Special Act proposed by lawmakers from the opposition parties has not passed the threshold of the National Defense Commission’s bill review subcommittee, and is currently being discussed ‘On hold‘.

It has been confirmed that all BTS members applied for a postponement of enlistment until the age of 30 in accordance with the Military Service Act for Outstanding Popular Culture and Arts, which was revised from last June.
